  • Popis: In a village a woman catches her husband red-handed with an unfortunate orphan named Marigo, who is then exposed to public ridicule and forced to flee to Athens. In Athens, Marigo gets a job as a housemaid for an ill-tempered woman named Amalia, who is the wife of Mr. Papadopoulos. She fires Marigo when she catches her sleeping with her son. In the meanwhile, Petros, who is a young plumber that Marigo had met and indeed intended to marry, steals all her savings and leaves for Australia. As time passes, Marigo changes her name to Mary and now works as a hairdresser. She meets an immensely wealthy man named Mike Papadimas, who is the husband of one of her clients who died while playing cards. And so she enters high society and there meets the love of her life, a man named Giorgos (who is the young fiancé of a charming woman named Mrs. Leontiadou) and becomes his lover. She plans to divorce her husband and marry Giorgos, but fate forces her to abandon her plans, and she stays married so that her husband doesn’t ruin the man she loves.
